If you can, go to a local fly shop to get your stuff. You can get all of this stuff online for sure but go to the local store first anyway. Here’s why. Your online store doesn’t offer local advice. You can lay your hands on the tools and materials at a local shop before you lay down your credit card. Online shops don’t offer in person tying classes (which should be an annual appointment for you). They also don’t offer a place to go and bullshit with others about fishing and tying.
I get it if you don’t have a local shop, I have a really good local shop that I don’t go to enough. Partially, I’m old and I’ve bought all the stuff already. Partially, my really good fly shop doesn’t have a really good tying section (or they didn’t when I was last there, I should probably reconfirm that). As a result, most of my material purchases happen online.
If you can, try to buy as much from your list from a local shop before you head for the Internet. Don’t be the asshole who says, “that’s a shame that place is closing, I hadn’t been there in forever”. If you want to have a place to go where people who love the fly fishing in your area gather, throw your business at that place.
