More and more I need something high-vis to help me see my flies on the water. There are a lot of options here including having younger eyes than mine and not using anything.

Just a little amount of something bright is usually enough. I like Hareline Para Post wing because it’s easy to put a couple six strands into the wing of a fly.
Really, any synthetic yarn should work. Do a pre-screen by standing 20 feet away from the tying materials at your fly shop and see what catches your eye. Then close in and look for something that has a yarn/fiber composition. Brand names include:
- Fulling Mill Parapost Yarn
- Hareline Polypropylene Floating Yarn
- Semperfly Dry Fly Polyyarn
- Fulling Mill Ultra Dry Yarn
You can also use a brighter color of the EP Fibers you’re already building your wings with. Some small foam strips in a bright color also work well in a lot of patterns.
Whichever material you choose, make sure it is something you can see against the glare of water and that it sheds water or takes floatant. One pack of any of these materials will last a long time. You can also sneak them into the tails of hare’s ear nymphs.
